Democrats in the House will obtain a copy of President Trumpâs tax returns now that they control the chamber, a member of the partyâs leadership in the chamber predicted Wednesday.
âThe American people will see his tax returns, not because of any voyeuristic interest but because they should know if heâs corrupt,” said Rep. Eric Swalwell, a Democrat of California, in an interview on NBC Newsâ âToday Show.â
Democrats will also probe issues such as âcashing in on access to the Oval Officeâ and the presidentâs âfinancial entanglements overseas,â Swalwell said. The party also wanted to âfill in the blanksâ of the probe of Russia investigations, he added.

Swalwell is a member of the House Democratic caucusâ leadership team, as co-chair of the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee.

Swalwell said the investigations of the president are not the caucusâ top priority. âWeâre not going to lead with the investigations but weâre not going to look the other way,â he said.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said at a press conference that she believes in the committee system. âBut you can be sure of one thing. Weâll know what weâre doing, and weâll do it right,â she said.
In a tweet, Trump said any new probes would be a waste of taxpayer money. He also warned House Democrats that Republicans would not remain passive throughout any new probes. He suggested Senate Republicans would investigate House Democrats.
If the Democrats think they are going to waste Taxpayer Money investigating us at the House level, then we will likewise be forced to consider investigating them for all of the leaks of Classified Information, and much else, at the Senate level. Two can play that game!
